2012 Jean-Marc Bouley Pommard 1er Leonie

US$133.38

There is no Fremiets or Les Rugiens this year because of hail damage, so there is one 2012 Pommard 1er Cru Cuvee Leonie, named after his 4-month daughter. There were two barrels from each climat, so it was an opportunity to see how they blended together. The Fremiets is 100% whole bunches while Les Rugiens was completely de-stemmed. It has an almost crystalline bouquet with pure red cherries, blood orange and a subtle but present mineral component. The palate is medium-bodied with wonderful balanced and nigh on perfect acidity. There is a sense of harmony here, combined with superb fruit concentration and a focused, satisfying, complex finish. This is very elegant and it was certainly an astute decision to combine the two vineyards together. I think Leonie will be pleased and assume dad will hold back a few magnums for his daughter.
