"Alain Meunier noted that the 2012 vintage ""started relatively early and we had correct weather until the flowering and it continued pretty much until the end of July. August was on again/off again and it wasn't until the 8th of September where we finally got excellent conditions. Between the uneven flowering and then uneven weather patterns it's not surprising that the fruit maturities were uneven as well. We did a lot of leaf pulling to improve the ventilation so that the mildew would have trouble spreading. When we finally started picking it was very choppy meaning that we would pick one day, stop for another and then restart depending on conditions as well as the maturity levels in any given parcel. However inconvenient such an approach might have been it was effective because we obtained excellent maturities as we were able to eliminate the under ripe berries through a careful sorting process. The fruit was clean and ripe as potential alcohols were in the 12 to 13% range which is plenty for the style of wine that we wish to craft. We did our traditional vinification as there was no reason not to given the very good phenolic maturities. In terms of the style of the wines they remind me of a more concentrated version of 2000."" I found the Confuron '12s to be variable with some excellent wines and others being only average in the context of their appellations. As to the now in-bottle '11s, revisited below, in most cases they have performed at or near the top of my original estimated ranges. They are most impressive and worth your attention. Tasting note: An elegant, cool and restrained nose features a variety of red berries and a hint of wet stone. The silky, precise and appealingly intense middle weight flavors display good verve and detail on the balanced and lingering finish where a hint of wood can also be found. I very much like the sense of underlying tension and this is easily the best of the 2011 1ers, particularly in terms of sheer depth. For purchases reaching HK$1,500, delivery and service charges will be waived for any address on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories as well as self-pick orders.
