The history of the Thienpont family goes back when Camille Thienpont already created a wine merchant house in Belgium in 1842. In the early 1920’s Chateau Troplong Mondot in Saint Emilion and Vieux Chateau Certan in Pomerol were bought. At this time, Georges Thienpont was a successful wine merchant in Belgium and northern part of Europe. After the world crisis in the 1930’s Georges kept Vieux Chateau Certan located in Pomerol (About 35 acres).
