Glenfarclas 1966 Fino Casks

US$1,163.44

Glenfarclas are well known for their well-Sherried whiskies, as they often use casks which have previously held Oloroso Sherry. However, this 1966 vintage is a bit special, as the three casks used (#4194, #4195 and #4197) previously held Fino Sherry, and matured the Glenfarclas whisky for a massive 47 years! 1444 bottles were produced, and come accompanied by a handsome black leather box adorned with a silver coin featuring the portrait of John Grant, who purchased the distillery in 1865.

Glenfarclas distillery is a Highland whisky distillery in Ballindalloch, Scotland. The distillery was first granted a license in 1836 when it was run by Robert Hay. In 1865 it was bought by John Grant and is still owned and run by his descendants, making it truly independent. John L.S. Grant, who joined Glenfarclas in 1973, is the current Chairman. His son George S. Grant is Director of Sales.

The distillery has six stills, four of which are use for production and two are kept in reserve, which are the largest on Highland and are heated directly by gas burners. Glenfarclas has a production capacity of around 90,000 litres of finished whisky per year. Glenfarclas has approximately 50,000 casks maturing on site, in traditional dunnage warehouses, with stock from every year from 1952 to the current year.

Since 2006 Glenfarclas has been distributed in the UK by Pol Roger Ltd. In this same year Glenfarclas was named 'Distiller of the Year' by Whisky Mgazine. In 2008 the company began sponsoring horseracing with the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase at Cheltenham. In 2011, the 40 year old 46% vol. expression was named "Scotch Whisky Single Malt of the Year" in the 17th Annual Malt Advocate Whisky Awards.
