Romanee-Conti, St-Vivant Grand Cru 1990
US$1,788.98 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Romanee-St-Vivant Grand Cru 1990 | BH92 Tasting Note: The DRC's Romanee St.-Vivant is a tough wine to evaluate. I found the 1990 to have a pervasive earthy, cinnamon, clove, sweet fruit-scented nose intermingled with scents of spicy new oak. Although closed, the wine exhibits great depth, medium to full body, and copious quantities of hard tannins in the long, structured, austere finish. It requires a patient buyer. Anticipated maturity: 1999-2015. CHÂTEAU PÉTRUS (1.5L) 1999
US$4,317.77 The oldest reference to the Petrus estate comes in the early years of the 19th century, long after most Médoc estates sprang into life, and certainly lagging far behind those of nearby St Emilion, a number of which have Roman origins. The name itself refers to St Peter, who makes clear his allegiance to the estate by appearing on...

Petrus, Pomerol 1990
US$4,704.44 Petrus, Pomerol 1990 | WA100 Tasting Note: The 1990 Petrus remains incredibly young, one of the least evolved wines of the vintage (along with Montrose and Beausejour-Duffau). This dense ruby/purple-colored effort is beginning to hint at the massive richness and full-bodied intensity lurking beneath its wall of tannin. The vintage’s sweetness, low acidity, and velvety tannins are present in...

Chateau Palmer, Margaux 1990
US$309.33 Chateau Palmer, Margaux 1990 | WA97 Tasting Note: Medium saturated color with the first hint of amber at the rim. Exuberant, generous nose has us riveted in our seats in awe. Scents recall ripe cherries and blackberries, candied citrus fruits (similar to mature Sauternes), violet, coffee, cedar, ginger, and mint. Equally wonderful in the mouth; smooth, mellow, and totally...

Gaja Sito Moresco 2012
US$40.47 Superbly made. Elegant, balanced with exotic layers of flavour in this full-bodied Italian red wine. Everything comes together without any one element dominating. Long finish. This robust red is a blend of Nebbiolo, Cabernet and Merlot grapes from the Piedmontese DOC region, Langhe. The climate here allows nurtures these grape varieties, which allows true stars like this producer to...

Chateau Lafleur, Pomerol 2000
US$1,997.78 Chateau Lafleur, Pomerol 2000 | WA100 Tasting Note: I am not surprised the 2000 Lafleur has garnered the magical three-digit score. From bottle, the wine boasts a dense plum/purple color in addition to a gorgeous nose of kirsch liqueur intermixed with hints of black truffles, raspberries, and minerals. The tannin is present, but seems to creep up only upon...

Chateau d'Yquem, Sauternes 1975
US$857.11 Chateau d'Yquem, Sauternes 1975 | WA99 Tasting Note: The 1975 may turn out to be the greatest of the modern-day Yquems. When fully mature in another 25-30 years, it may rival the extraordinary 1937 and 1921. This wine continues to evolve at a stubbornly slow pace. It is far more backward than recent vintages such as 1983 and 1986....

CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 1960
US$889.33 Chateau Margaux was founded in the 1400's. Once the residence of Edward III, King of England, it was one of the most stately fortified chateaux in Guyenne. Over the centuries, the property changed ownership several times. In 1804, the Marquis of La Colonilla acquired the property, razed the old Gothic manor-house and built in its place the chateau which...
