Colgin, Herb Lamb Vineyard 1997
US$676.67 Colgin, Napa Valley Herb Lamb Vineyard 1997 | WA99 - U.S.A., Napa Valley Tasting Note: Sadly only 400 cases were made of the 1997. The nearly perfect 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard was bottled in May, 1999, and appears to have recovered beautifully from bottle shock. Saturated black/purple-colored with a knock-out nose of blackberries, blueberries, lavender, licorice, and toast, this is a profound, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. It displays a seamless, velvety texture, layers of concentrated fruit, and a 45+ second finish. Am I being too conservative in not giving it a 3-digit score? Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025. Le Macchiole, Messorio Tuscany 2004
US$389.24 Le Macchiole, Messorio Tuscany 2004 | WS100 - Italy, Tuscany Tasting Note: Beautiful, subtle aromas of berries, cappuccino and black olive are amazing. Full-bodied, with ultrarefined tannins and a long, long finish. Goes on for minutes. Leaves me speechless. This is soulful. A Tuscan cult wine you don't want to miss. Merlot. Best after 2012. Only 710 cases made....

Screaming Eagle 2007 (OWC of 3)
US$9,666.66 Screaming Eagle, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 (OWC of 3) | WA100 - USA, Napa Valley Tasting Note: As impossible as it might seem, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon takes things to another level. An exquisite, celestial bouquet melds into endless layers of fruit as this rich, voluptuous wine blossoms on the palate. Full-bodied and seductive, the 2007 conquers all...

Romanee-Conti, St-Vivant Grand Cru 1990
US$1,788.98 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Romanee-St-Vivant Grand Cru 1990 | BH92 Tasting Note: The DRC's Romanee St.-Vivant is a tough wine to evaluate. I found the 1990 to have a pervasive earthy, cinnamon, clove, sweet fruit-scented nose intermingled with scents of spicy new oak. Although closed, the wine exhibits great depth, medium to full body, and copious quantities of hard...

Petrus, Pomerol 1990
US$4,704.44 Petrus, Pomerol 1990 | WA100 Tasting Note: The 1990 Petrus remains incredibly young, one of the least evolved wines of the vintage (along with Montrose and Beausejour-Duffau). This dense ruby/purple-colored effort is beginning to hint at the massive richness and full-bodied intensity lurking beneath its wall of tannin. The vintage’s sweetness, low acidity, and velvety tannins are present in...

Chateau Palmer, Margaux 1990
US$309.33 Chateau Palmer, Margaux 1990 | WA97 Tasting Note: Medium saturated color with the first hint of amber at the rim. Exuberant, generous nose has us riveted in our seats in awe. Scents recall ripe cherries and blackberries, candied citrus fruits (similar to mature Sauternes), violet, coffee, cedar, ginger, and mint. Equally wonderful in the mouth; smooth, mellow, and totally...

Chateau Lafleur, Pomerol 2000
US$1,997.78 Chateau Lafleur, Pomerol 2000 | WA100 Tasting Note: I am not surprised the 2000 Lafleur has garnered the magical three-digit score. From bottle, the wine boasts a dense plum/purple color in addition to a gorgeous nose of kirsch liqueur intermixed with hints of black truffles, raspberries, and minerals. The tannin is present, but seems to creep up only upon...

Chateau d'Yquem, Sauternes 1975
US$857.11 Chateau d'Yquem, Sauternes 1975 | WA99 Tasting Note: The 1975 may turn out to be the greatest of the modern-day Yquems. When fully mature in another 25-30 years, it may rival the extraordinary 1937 and 1921. This wine continues to evolve at a stubbornly slow pace. It is far more backward than recent vintages such as 1983 and 1986....

Chateau Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan 1998
US$541.33 Chateau Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan 1998 (Mahler-Besse Release 2014) | WA96 Tasting Note: As reported over the last two years, this is a prodigious Haut-Brion. It exhibits a dense ruby/purple color in addition to a tight, but incredibly promising nose of smoke, earth, minerals, lead pencil, black currants, cherries, and spice. This full-bodied wine unfolds slowly, but convincingly on the palate,...

Chateau Haut-Brion Blanc 2001
US$732.09 Chateau Haut-Brion Blanc, Pessac-Leognan 2001 | WA94 Tasting Note: This dense, full-bodied, concentrated, lively Haut-Brion Blanc exhibits aromas of honeyed citrus, flowers, smoke, and melon. It should age marvelously for three decades. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2030.
