US$673.76 This 1982 Port Ellen, bottled for the Douglas of Drumlanrig label in 2007, after this Islay matured for 24 years, is named 'an idiosyncratically intense Islay Malt' by it's former Masters. We do not know whether this makes any sence but what we know is that this is a absolute rarity; although the bottles are not numbered there could not have been enough whisky in cask LD3529 to produce a few hundred bottles alltogether.Personally selected by the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry which happens to be the largest private landowner of the UK.Port Ellen Distillery, located in Port Ellen, was established as a malt mill in 1825 and then developed as a distillery under John Ramsay. The warehouses he built still exist and are now listed buildings. The distillery was acquired by the Distillers Company in 1925, felt silent in 1929 but was rebuilt in 1967. It continued in production throughout the 1970's until it closed in 1983. The distillery now houses a malting which continues to supply all Islay distilleries, as per an agreement signed in 1987.
