"My work is at the junction of technique and a bit of poetry," said French designer Pierre Paulin (1927-2009). This armchair is one of his icons. Known as the F444 (Paulin's preference for numbering rather than naming his works was inspired by the habits of Johann Sebastian Bach), he designed it in 1963 for Artifort, and the Dutch company has brought it back into production. The stainless steel frame, with a black connecting piece that mirrors the verticals of the sleek backrest, is upholstered in natural saddle leather selected for its propensity to develop a warm patina with time and use.
