First Class Dining Room Armchair Augustus

Rare armchair in the dining room of the Italian liner Augustus in mahogany. Fixing system for heavy sea under the seat (see photo detail). Several copies available. The fabric has been changed but is to be redone. View and enlarge photos before restoration and time on the steamer.
These armchairs were designed by the famous Italian designer Gustavo Pulitzer in 1952\\. He was part of the modernist movement after the war with Gio Ponti and Nino Zoncada who also participated in the decoration of the Augustus. He also took part in the decoration of the famous steamer Andréa Doria. The armchairs of the 1950s made by well-known designers are gaining more and more value. A good investment! The liner Augustus, sister ship of the Guilio Cesare, was launched in 1952 for the company Italia Line. Tonnage 27,090 tons, length 207 m, 26,6 m wide, draft 8,5 m, cruising speed 21 knots, maximum speed 23,35 knots.
Passengers: 178 in first class, 288 in second class, 714 in tourist class.
From 1964 325 in first class and 858 in tourist class. Crew 493.
He sailed on the line Genoa - Buenos Aires from 1952 to 1957 and then until 1961 from Genoa to New York. From 1961 to 1976 return on the line Genoa Buenos Aires.

It ended up as a floating hotel under the Philippines name before being dismantled at Alang in 2012 when we bought these chairs.
