Named for the Italian word for brackets (or parentheses), the multifunctional Parentesi was designed in 1970 by Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002) and Pio Manzù (1939-1969) for Flos. This lamp moves vertically by sliding along a shaped steel tube on a ceiling-to-floor cable that drops from a small ceiling mount to the floor. The fixture head, made of injection-molded black elastomer, houses a switch.
