The 1965 design, inspired by an 18th-century _chaise longue_, is a prime and almost extreme example of Kjærholm's principle of designing with independent elements. The chair has no physical connection between the main parts: they are kept together by gravity and friction. The designer referred to it as the "Hammock Chair" to emphasize its suspension of the body between two points. The seat and back, curved on a satin-brushed stainless steel frame covered with handwoven wicker, glide on the frame as they adjust to the sitter's desired position.
