The Aston Martin DB6 was introduced in September 1965 as a replacement for the DB5 and featured a revised body shape with a new rear lip-spoiler and abbreviated Kammback tail, which Aston Martin had previously used in their sports-racing prototypes. The new styling significantly improved the car's aerodynamics and handling by reducing tail lift at higher speeds and further enhancements were available in the form of a Volante (drop head) body and a Vantage specification engine, which utilised three twin choke Weber DCOE 45s and delivered increased power output from 282 to 325 bhp. While there were 1788 examples of the DB6 produced from 1965 to 1970, only a very small number of cars featured the highly desirable combination of being a Vantage Volante.
