Only 899 units were produced of this magnificent Mercedes convertible in 1981. Less than 5% of all of the Mercedes R107 models concerned a Mercedes 500SL, which is why this car is rare. The R107 replaced the W113 (Pagoda) in 1971, and was succeeded in 1981 by the W126C for coupe models (SLC), and by the R129 for convertible models (SL) in 1989. Some changes regarding the engine were already implemented in 1976; the electronic (Bosch D-jetronic) was replaced by the mechanical (Bosch KA-jetronic) fuel injection in all models. In 1978, a 5.0 litre alloy V8 (M117E50) was used for the first time in the 450SLC 5.0, this engine produced 240 hp (4750 rpm) and 406 Nm (4500rpm). In 1980, the 500SL (BM107.046) was introduced with this 5.0 litre engine and a four speed automatic transmission. The 500SL(C) was the only model which came with alloy rims and a small black rubber spoiler on the tailgate as a standard feature. This Mercedes is in an original condition (hardtop, engine and transmission are all original). The vehicle starts immediately, shifts smoothly and powerfully through all gears, idles nicely at 800 rpm and brakes properly.
