With a clean, Pininfarina-designed body that was inspired by a 1959 design study based on a Disco Volante chassis, the Duetto captivated the public with its sleek and sporty lines. Reliability and performance were strong, with the majority of the new car's mechanical components carried over unaltered from the proven Giulia. The "Duetto" name resulted from a winning entry in a name-the-car contest, aptly reflecting the car's recurring theme of two - two camshafts, two carburetors, and two seats for the two occupants to sing together while motoring.
