On the plateau, the soil consists of deep gravel and at the foohill clay. The red wines of the appellation (Premières Côtes de Bordeaux) are aromatic and full bodied. As to the whites, they are fruity and complex and can be dry or sweet (Cadillac). All three qualities go into the famous Mouton Cadet from Baron Philippe de Rothschild or are sold to private clients.
