1979 Pilbeam MP40 V8

US$38,338.90

The MP40 was one of Mike Pilbeam's most successful hillclimb cars. Two MP40s were built, and this is the only surviving example. An MP40 won the RAC National Hillclimb Championship in 1979 driven by Martyn Griffiths, and this car won the championship in 1981 with James Thompson. Its drivers also won many other Championships, set multiple FTD's and outright hill records.

The car has a continuous history and has been upgraded over the years, including a new honeycomb tub in 1984 with ground effect aerodynamics. Then in the early 2000's it was fitted with a fabulous TVR Tuscan specification 4.5 litre Rover V8 engine, with Cosworth pistons, Carillo rods, quad downdraft Dellortos, etc, producing 390 bhp/360 lbs ft.

Recently used for British Championship hillclimbs at Shelsley, Prescott, and Loton Park plus MIRA sprints. Twice shown at Cholmondeley Pageant of Power and last run as an invited demonstration car at Shelsley in August 2015. Ready for immediate use, the car starts from the on-board or a remote battery, and is very well engineered and immaculately presented. Much loved car now only for sale as owners do not have time to use the car due to their thriving business.

Complete with an MSA logbook and an excellent spares package. Please contact us for details of this and a full specification for this fabulous car.
