PROPERTY FOR SALE NEAR ROME

Price On Request

Property for sale near Rome featuring a very quaint real estate complex built on a hill in the XI century by Abbot John V. The abbey in still dominates the medieval village below with its imposing structure. Conceived as a feudal castle, in order to establish the monastic rule on Subiaco, over the centuries the building assumed different functions, from fortress, to luxurious palace and residence of popes and cardinals until 1753 when Pope Benedict XIV finally included Subiaco and its abbey in the Papal States. After the damage caused by the earthquake in 1348, the fortress was restored in 1476 by Rodrigo Borgia who sold it to Cardinal Giovanni Colonna after becoming Pope with the name of Alexander VI. In the following centuries earthquakes and war ravaged and undermined the integrity of the abbey and it became uninhabitable. The work commissioned in 1778 by Pius VI to the architect Pietro Camporesi brought prestige to it again, but it lost all the original features of the medieval fortress to be more comfortable and to adapt to the new needs.

Developed on four floors and with an irregular plan, the main building of the complex is in good condition. A large courtyard in front of the entrance is dominated by a beautiful elliptical staircase and a majestic portal created by the architect Camporese for Pius VI in 1779. A wide staircase leads to the apartments "Braschi" located on the second floor of the building. They consist of seven rooms, all skillfully painted in the second half of the XVIII century by Liborio Coccetti and the Zuccari brothers. The locals are full of elegant and sober decoration and finishing in Pompeian style. Walls decorated with beautiful frescoes, beautiful fireplaces, golden frames and low reliefs make the atmosphere attractive and charming. The throne room with representations of scenes from the Old Testament, the banquet living room with beautiful frescoes, the Borgian quadrangular tower and the clock tower as well as all other rooms have artistic features and decorative motifs strongly suggestive and full of history. Noteworthy it's also the chapel in neoclassical-baroque style with octagonal shape. The altar is dominated by an elegant canopy of yellow marble where are set lapis lazuli and emeralds, while the neo-classical columns are topped with Corinthian capitals.

Despite the main building is in good condition, other buildings of the complex need renovation.Te real estate complex has a strategic position for transport hubs and is located near to Rome, making it an ideal option for residential or commercial development by those examining suitable properties in Lazio.
