PRODUCT INFORMATION
DETAILED PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Vintage. Comes with the Patek shipping box & the factory "Extract from the Archives" certificate stating that this watch was manufactured in 1950 and sold on November 29 1950.
This watch was sent to the Patek Philippe's Geneva factory where it received a complete works and returned to Singapore for an invoice of S$3130. A new alligator strap was fitted and sold with an original 18KYG signed buckle. The dial is original and not restored during this job while hands were replaced. A tiny, faint grey spot is found on the dial and in-between 12 & 1 o'clock. It is very small, faint and not visible unless you have sharp eyes. The 18K signed buckle appears to be of a vintage & even stamped on the pin that pierces the strap hole.
It presents good as new now as you can see from the pictures. It was sealed in their vacuum pack for protection but we have opened it for photography only and watch has never been worn since acquisition in recent years.
The back cover is not machine locked by the factory so upon unlocking the back cover, you can see a beautifully decorated interior using perlarge (Circular grains) with all the essential stampings & hallmarks but what surprises is the discovery of a metal dust cover protecting the movement from the elements as this item is often lost over time. A delight for any watch collector. The new black gasket is intact. Movement is clean and shines with the Côtes de Genève decoration visible while the jewels are of course oiled.
The Ref.565 was launched in 1938 and was the first large water resistant wristwatch with a screw-lock back and production ceased in 1952. This model was affectionately reproduced in 2006 under Ref.5565 to celebrate the re-opening of the grand boutique along _Rue de Rhone_in Geneva with only 300 pieces were made in Steel. Vintage watches with screw-lock back covers are highly desired by collectors as they represent the early sports watches and were water-resistant. The case are always heavier with a thick back cover to withstand atmospheric pressure and also to enable screw threads on the edge.
This is a 66 years old watch but is fresh as new except for not being water resistant and beware of scratching the plastic crystal. Otherwise, it will serve you well like any modern manual winding Patek Philippe. A S$3130 cash value is added to this watch and it is ready to be worn.
A rare opportunity not to be missed. 28+/- turns on the crown to a full wind & large vintage_Patek Philippe_ watches like this is very rare as most were 30mm in those years and a sweep center seconds makes it highly coveted as the movement was more expensive to produce than those with small seconds. Production of this movement Caliber 27SC started in 1949 and 12,879 pieces were made and in use up to 1970.
