This is an antique, French pier cabinet dating towards the end of the 19th century, circa 1880.

- Raised on a continuous, chamfered plinth base the central glazed door is flanked by panels inlaid with boxwood stringing and dressed with ormolu mounts of swagged foliate detail.

- Above the door, separated by a roped band of ormolu, the upper frieze features a centrally mounted painted porcelain miniature of floral interest, ringed with a chain of beads and highlighted with boxwood sting detail to either side. Above, the top displays well with moulded edge detail.

- The glazed door friction closes with partial escutcheon over further inlaid stringing. Opening the door reveals the original, ruby red fitted interior complete with a pair of shelves, time faded as one would expect in a piece of this age.

- Throughout, the burr walnut glows through the patinated finish offering a warm period charm to this attractive display cabinet.
