Feldschuh Gallery - Henri Cartier-Bresson, Henri Matisse, Vence, France, 1944

US$28,500.00

One of the most original, accomplished, and influential figures in the history of photography, Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) takes on another famed Henri in this 1944 photograph. Captured in black and white, Matisse-the wild Fauve-is stripped of his normal abundance of color as he poses for a portrait while convalescing at home on the French Riviera. He gently holds a white dove, while sketching the bird. Three others perch on a cage in the foreground. Here, we see a portrait of an artist in a medium so different from his own.
