"End of June 1972" by Wessel Huisman
US$5,866.24 I saw this astonishing play of light, reflection and depth at the entrance of the Great Eagle Centre when I visited the Dutch Consulate General. There was a surprising contrast between the dark, solid construction and the invading light, permeating all directions. In the distance, there is a view of an idyllic garden. I took up the challenge to reduce the construction’s heavy mass. I also gave the light white rectangles a new order.

"Beginning of March 1963, on a Saturday afternoon" by Wessel Huisman
US$8,122.48 For the past twenty-five years, old black and white photographs inspired many of my paintings. My appreciation of a painting is not determined by whether the scene is contemporary or not. The paintings of great masters like Rembrandt or Da Vinci represent 16th and 17th century tableaus and even older biblical episodes. This has no influence on the intensity...

"Beginning of March 1962, on a Tuesday afternoon" by Wessel Huisman
US$6,446.41 In this painting the light is very equal, neutral. You can hardly see its origin. The indanthrone blue and burnt sienna form a delicate balance in colour tone and material expression. From very thin watery layers to lines and rectangles that seal off the surface, they emphasise the contrast between the solid material expression of the concrete buildings and...

"Beginning of June 1959, near the train station" by Wessel Huisman
US$5,414.99 I was still very young when I saw this light for the first time. A sky taking an open breath, a superb light echoing other times and places. I am aware that the image of this temple inside the Forbidden City could seem cliché. Its colourful expression and rhythmic patterns gave me the opportunity to release the colours from...

"Beginning of December 1959" by Wessel Huisman
US$5,414.99 An old photograph inspired this work. The presence of porters and rickshaws are a constant element when you see old Hong Kong street scenes. While exploring the town and visiting the new building sites near the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, I realised that all architectural achievements are the result of physical human effort. In this painting, I...

"April 1972" by Wessel Huisman, 2016, 70 x 100 cm, Acrylic on Canvas
US$5,866.24 The light in this painting was a great gift. The towers of the main buildings on The Bund behave like willing servants when they catch the last rays of the descending sun. They make the light material, almost as if you could touch it. The result is a heroic impression, emphasising the confident architectural constructions. The grand finale of...

"Hane-kago 3" by Takahide Komatsu
US$7,477.84 “Who designed these beautiful patterns? The composition and the motif are familiar to me since my childhood.” In Hane-kago 3, the artist depicts the butterfly "basket" absent of color. Perhaps a metaphor for the loss native species in Japan.

"Hane-kago 1" by Takahide Komatsu
US$7,477.84 In the Hane-kago series, the artist draws on the over 600 year old Japanese craft of basketry. The butterflies come together as if woven, creating a sense of mass in their unity. By using nature, the artist implies the aesthetic of "wabi-sabi", acceptance of imperfections and transience, of asymmetry and simplicity. The first in the series brings together all...
