A Victorian mahogany Lawyers' Document and Gown Cabinet.
The moulded top over two banks of nine drawers, each with flush brass handles, the top two drawers held by a locking bar to left and right, with an open space to the right for hanging gowns, on a plinth base.
This rare Document and Gown Cabinet would have been made for use in an upmarket Lawyers' Chambers. It is made with good quality mahogany and brass flush, military-style, handles. The locking bars were a Victorian invention which allowed a number of drawers to be locked by a single key.
