A group of 12 Newspaper Openers, each printed with sections of maps of the world and marked for the Eastern Telegraph Company Ltd, with the exception of one with a ruler for the United Asbestos Co Limited, London.
All dated to the 1889 or the 1890s. Newspaper Openers were used in the days when one's newspaper arrived uncut, so the butler had to slit each page open using a Newspaper Opener prior to ironing the newspaper for pristene presentation to his master. The present examples are advertising examples and are rare survivors of their type.
