The Hanyu Distillery was whisky distillery located in a town with the same name. The company was founded by the Akuto family which had been in brewing business since the 1600s. In the 1980’s the company started distilling whisky, unfortunately this did not last and the company was closed down in 2000. Bottles from it are however highly sought after. This Hanyu 1988 named “Big Butt” is a higher than usual strength whisky. Taste is unusually buttery and rich and the label features a Sumo match. Only 200 bottles were released.
